5 Web Summit Start-Ups Every Foodie Needs

The Web Summit might be all about tech, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be delicious. 🙂 Here’s a few of the newest food start-ups that will be changing the way you eat.

1 Swipeato

Launched in Denmark this year, Swipeato is the Tinder of food apps for fussy eaters. By selecting your allergies, religious restrictions or your food preferences, Swipeato matches you with local restaurants that will cater to your dietary needs.

2 Shopbake

Shopbake defines itself as ‘Etsy for Bakeries’. It is essentially a marketplace which acts as a way to connect bakeries with customers. Launched in Canada in 2014, Shopbake has already built a database of 500 products, with 80 bakeries and an order time of 90 minutes within Toronto.

3. Deliveroo

This London based start-up launched in Ireland in March, and already offers delivery from over 120 restaurants within Dublin. Similar to New York’s version of Seamless, Deliveroo aims to provide delivery for gourmet restaurants which otherwise would not have the facilities in place to offer a delivery service.

4. Mother

Mother is a hardware device that enables you to grow whatever food you want, no matter what your climate. It provides the right temperature and lighting to maximise the growth of anything, from strawberries to chiles, and even lights up blue to remind you to water it. Unfortunately, it’s not yet available to buy yet, but after its launch later this year it could be yours for just €349.

5. Secret Menu

The Australian ‘Instagram for Restaurants’ has already signed up with over 500 restaurants, bars &  clubs across Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne, and it hasn’t even launched yet. The app enables restaurants to upload offers based around their menu, and then allows customers to save the offer, share it with a friend, or even order an Uber to bring them straight to the restaurant.
